DIY - How to Make Caramalised Onions at Home

Onions when slowly cooked and allowed to caramelise add flavour to a variety of dishes - pizza, sandwiches, burgers, meats or even rice.

The ingredients required to make mouthwatering caramelised onions are few and the rewards tasty.

Here is how you can make caramelised onions at home.

Slice onions (red or white, both work) into half rings. The quantity you want to caramelize depends on you as leftover onions keep in fridge upto a week.
  • Heat cooking oil in a heavy bottomed pan, take approximately one tablespoon oil for each onion.
  • Add a pinch of salt and stir fry till they become golden.
  • If the onions stick to the bottom of the pan, add a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and stir. Add one tablespoon brown sugar to add extra flavour.
  • Switch off the flame and allow to cool.
  • Store in fridge or use in sandwiches, burgers, pizza and more.
