Review: Craft Deli. Bistro. Bar at Kurla Marketcity

We walked across beautiful spiral wooden pillars and an open kitchen and spotted a perfect table set under Edison bulbs & bougainvillea at the newly opened restaurant- Craft at Kurla Marketcity. Once seated at the outdoor area, we noticed the lovely breeze and reached out excitedly for the menu divided into three neat sections-Deli, Bistro and Bar serving modern European delicacies. The open kitchen and bar were abuzz with activity with dishes being created and cocktails being crafted to set the mood for the evening.  Up-tempo music promised to keep the mood upbeat.

Having relished food at the other outlets of Bellona Hospitality (the fab people behind 212 All Day, Amaya & Sichuan House) we were eager to try their latest venture helmed by Chef Paul Kinny. On a little probing, he gave a little sneak peak into the thought behind the menu- modern yet simple dishes crafted to perfection using freshly sourced, handpicked ingredients…nice :)

We settled down and ordered two signature cocktails- Spiced Apple Grog – an easy- on-the-nerves cocktail made with rum infused with cinnamon sticks and fresh green apples and T2- this one shook things up with a tangy combination of tequila & tamarind.  If you like things sweet try the Red Velvet cocktail made with vodka, grenadine, cranberry & raspberry.

Having set the mood, our stomachs asked for more. We started with the deli section and tried “The Trio” (can be enjoyed as a takeaway too from the deli counter) and loved the green goddess hummus dip & fresh dill tzatziki best enjoyed with toasted pita & sesame lavash. The Craft Caprese salad was a winner with soft house made cheese; oven-roasted tomatoes drizzled with perfect balsamic & basil pesto.

Next we tried the Quinoa Bowl- a healthy option made with fresh salad greens, quinoa and cranberries. From the soup section we tried Coconut and Corn Bisque- a delectable version of Tom Kha Kai made with coconut milk & sweet corn and laced with lemon grass & burnt garlic flavors with a hint of basil oil. We also tried two different Carpaccio dishes- Tenderloin Carpaccio & Lentil and Beet Carpaccio and loved the interesting Italian and Asian flavors in the Tenderloin Carpaccio. Thin slices of meat and pungent rocket leaves complimented each other with a mushroom extract & palm sugar dressing.  The Savory baklava a beautiful twist to the Turkish dessert was yum especially when paired with bhut jolokia pepper (one of the hottest peppers around) coulis.

For the main course, we tried Artisanal Rigatoni- made with sundried tomatoes, fresh cream & splash of paprika and loved the No Carb Spaghetti- made with carrot, zucchini and squash noodles tossed in olive oil…. healthy & tasty!

We wrapped up the meal with Peanut Butter Pie made with peanut butter chocolate ganache & served with vanilla ice cream and Banana toffee pudding with a sea salt caramel drizzle.

Verdict:

Craft, a chic all-day Deli, Bistro and Bar serves artisanal food and drinks in beautiful interiors. There is something for everyone- drop in for a healthy breakfast or lunch on the slightly heavier bistro menu, enjoy an evening of cocktails & fun or impress you date with modern European fare. There is clever emphasis on presentation of every dish and healthy ingredients so not compromise the taste. Don’t forget to stop at the well-stocked deli counter to carry something home to surprise your loved ones.
