The Fatty Bao Powai Review

Our foodie escapades are taking us more & more towards Powai- the new dynamic hub for entertainment in Mumbai. Recently we dined at SodaBottleOpenerWala and the lure of enjoying an evening at The Fatty Bao- a relaxed Asian Gastro Bar that serves inventive cocktails & an exciting Asian menu brought us back to.....you guessed it- Powai.

The first things we noticed as we stepped into Fatty Bao's third outpost in Powai were the eclectic interiors, comfortable seating arrangements, alfresco section & a trendy bar.

We settled down & took some time to choose from the "Root To Fruit Cocktails" menu that follows the garden to glass concept. Cocktails are created with house-made syrups & different parts of plants like flowers, seeds, leaves, roots, stems and even the pods.

We tried refreshing cocktails like Tamatcha (made with rum, matcha syrup, basil, lime & soda).

Beach Blonde (made with gin, coconut water, lime juice, lemongrass, jaggery & hints of green chilli) and Bora Bora (made with Absolute vodka, passion fruit, green apple, coconut water served with juicy green apple slivers). The bar menu also features classic cocktails, an extensive wine list available by the glass and bottle, single malts and other premium spirits. All three cocktails had a distinctive taste that we would love to repeat on our next visit.

For starters we started with Black Rice Sushi served with scallops & miso. We have already covered the benefits of black rice & the black rice sushi is a great healthy option when you are a mood to try something different.

Next Pork & Chinese Cabbage Gyoza (pan seared Japanese style dumplings) were juicy with a delicate filling of minced pork & cabbage & wrapped in delicate wrappers.

The Typhoon Shelter Crab ( a dish served across many Hong Kong Chinese restaurants) was a delight made with soft shelled crabs, garlic, scallion, red chili and black beans.

We highly recommend The Fatty Oysters - delicious oysters broiled with soy butter, Ponzu sauce & topped with caviar.

The main course comprised of Grilled Lamb Chops marinated in Korean chili paste & garlic served with tamarind Chili Sauce and salad.

The Fatty Pho Ramen Bowl (we ordered the less broth option) was flavorful & satisfying with smoked chicken, noodles, vegetables & eggs.

For desserts we tried the Cocoa Caramel- a delicious combination of flour less chocolate cake topped with hazelnut praline, caramel ice cream, salted caramel gel served with meringue.

Located conveniently, The Fatty Bao- Powai is a great place to enjoy a quick lunch or lounge during evenings, drinking your favorite tipple. Patrons can also enjoy cocktail hours from Monday to Friday. The food menu has a good variety featuring addictive small plates, hearty salads, delicately rolled sushi and ramen bowls.
