Review: Express Lunch at The Leela Mumbai

They say that the Lunch hour is the best hour......we agree!! For us, lunch time is a great way to apply brakes to the break-neck speed at which the day goes by. Lunch time at work is the time to catch up with colleagues with whom we seldom interact or discuss soft issues with the big boss. When lady luck shines (or maybe the boss :D) we even go out to have a team lunch or meet a friend that works nearby to bond over good food. In short, we relish & savor our lunch time.

Often deadlines take precedence & do not allow the luxury to indulge in a lengthy luncheons. The Leela Mumbai has recently introduced the concept of "Express Lunch" so that you can enjoy your lunch without taking away too much time from your busy schedule. Good food served in great ambience during lunch time & that too without taking away too much time? Now, what's there to not love about it?

We stepped into The Great Wall, The Leela Mumbai's traditional Chinese restaurant to try the four course Express Lunch. The set menu comes in two options- vegetarian & non vegetarian & comprises of a hearty soup, appetizers, main course & dessert. The menu is designed in such a way that you spend minimal time in choosing your favorites from 3 to 4 options in each course & settle down to relish your lunch & continue being the applauded work ninja :D.

We chose to try both- the single diner veg & non veg menu & started with soups. The chicken dumpling soup- a hearty clear soup was delicious & comforting while the Vegetable hot & sour soup served with thinly julienned vegetables had right amount of spice balanced by the sourness of vinegar.

For the appetizers we chose,Vegetable crystal dim sums & chicken mushroom dumplings both served with a variety of dips.

Next came the main course for which we tried crispy lamb with fried hakka noodles made with mushrooms, seasonal greens & chicken from the non veg menu. From the veg menu we chose fresh garden greens in brown sauce along with fried rice with vegetables. We noted that the wait time between courses is minimal & the service quick!

Now came the course that delights one & all-desserts. We chose a delightful scoop of ice cream (choose between strawberry or vanilla) & cream of mango with sago pearl- a delicious chilled dessert made with pureed ripe mango, boiled sago seed and Pomelo fruit ( a native fruit of South East Asia).
