#ShramDaanDay A Unique Pan-India Initiative by Fevicol Champions Club

The greatest gift you can give to someone is your time and the very simple gestures are the ones that have the largest effects. Often we come across heart-warming examples set by everyday people that speak volumes about their selfless nature. We all in our little ways yearn to do something for the society and would love joining an initiative that would point us in the right direction. Recently, we came across a unique pan India community initiative by Fevicol that bonds over 42000 woodworkers and contractors to contribute labour. Intrigued by the scale and the benevolence of the initiative, we decided to familiarize ourselves with the initiative rightly called as “Shram Daan Divas”

Pidilite Industries Ltd, one of the most trusted brands in the country has become a household name, as we cannot think of any other adhesive but Fevicol. In fact don’t we end up reiterating to our woodworkers to use nothing but Fevicol while making furniture at home or workplaces? Fevicol Champions Club (FCC), a self-sustaining body established in year 2002 by Pidilite works towards encouraging goodwill in carpenter community through various social and professional activities boasts of more than 40,000 members across the country. For three years, the FCC has been encouraging carpenters and contractors at multiple location across the country to devotetheir day to repairing broken furniture at organizations and institutions for the under-privileged ….Wow!

On December 20th & 21st of this month, 42000 woodworkers and contractors came together to repair and refurbish around 800 beneficiary organizations across the country. Into the third year, since its inception, the initiative held in over 320 cities across the country benefitted NGOs, beneficiary schools, hospitals and institutions for underprivileged children. By now we were almost in awe of this initiative and decided to know more. “Shram Daan Divas” has made a mark over the years with members having gone out of their way to embark on various initiatives for needy community. Creating special type of sound proof plywood in classroom for students of Deaf and Dumb school, undertaking free repair work for institute with no monetary assistance – NGOs, schools, Deaf and Dumb schools, Autistic schools, Old age homes, amongst others through labour donation, supporting through flood relief funds are just a few examples on their commitment towards making a difference. Pidilite on its part supports the initiative by providing all the participants across India with the tools and materials required for carrying out their repair work

We thought of this unique bonding amongst these daily wage earners who come together for a good deed. We thought some more about these valiant individuals who forgo of their daily wage even though they themselves are not economically empowered and we felt good. We envisaged the smiling faces of thousands of children as these selfless heroes worked tirelessly to repair and refurbish. They may have let go of their wages but surely returned with a feeling of fulfillment…of a day well spent. Because there is nothing better than being able to bring a smile on someone’s face and being a reason of his or her happiness.
